Christopher M. Heckscher

Christopher M. Heckscher is a Professor of Environmental Science & Ecology at Delaware State University (DSU), affiliated with the College of Agriculture, Science, and Technology (CAST). He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Entomology and Wildlife Ecology from the University of Delaware and a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University.

His research focuses on ecosystem-level studies through avian and insect behavior, particularly Catharus thrushes' breeding ecology, migratory patterns, and conservation. He employs cutting-edge tools like GPS loggers and geolocators to track long-distance migrants such as the Veery (Catharus fuscescens). Key interests include biodiversity conservation, climate change impacts, and habitat restoration. He has pioneered studies on firefly (Lampyridae) taxonomy and conservation in North America.
