Christopher M Rea is an Assistant Professor of Sociology and International and Public Affairs at Brown University, affiliated with the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs and the Climate Solutions Lab. His research examines how institutions and organizations shape environmental governance, focusing on climate change, species extinction, and environmental justice. Previously, he held positions at Ohio State University and was a postdoctoral fellow at Brown’s Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES).
Education:
- PhD in Sociology (2018), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
- MA in Teaching (2007) and BA in Physics (2006), Clark University
Research Interests: The environmental state, commodification of nature, environmental politics, climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and the intersection of firearms and conservation. His work integrates political sociology, environmental history, and organizational theory to address governance challenges.
