Christopher Lowery is a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Geophysics and a Lecturer in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, both within the Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on understanding past environmental changes and their impacts on marine ecosystems, particularly through the lens of paleoceanography and micropaleontology.
Lowery holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Geosciences from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a B.S. in Geology from the University of Mary Washington.
His research interests include Cretaceous Oceanic Anoxic Events, the End Cretaceous mass extinction, and modern and ancient foraminifer geochemistry. He is currently investigating long-term changes in Gulf of Mexico circulation and oxygenation, post-mass extinction ecosystem recovery, and modern ocean deoxygenation. His work integrates foraminifer paleoecology, geochemistry, sedimentology, and geophysics to address these topics.
