Christopher-Lloyd Simon is an S. Chowla Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on intersections of low-dimensional topology, algebraic geometry, and dynamical systems, with particular emphasis on character varieties, modular knots, and symbolic dynamics.
He completed his PhD under Etienne Ghys and Patrick Popescu-Pampu, exploring arithmetic and topological properties of modular knots. Recent work includes studies on valuations in character varieties (Geometry & Topology, 2024), linking numbers of modular knots (to appear in Geometry & Topology), and hexagonal dynamics (arXiv preprint).
He has advised one student, Mayank Yadav, on a REU project about chord diagrams and interlace graphs (2023-2024). His work has been presented at venues like the Astérisque journal, Annales Henri Lebesgue, and international conferences such as the Geometry/Topology Seminar at Brown University.
