Dr. Christopher Lehmann is an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. His research focuses on leveraging the human microbiome to combat antibiotic resistance, specifically developing strategies to restore microbiome balance to prevent infections. He is affiliated with the Duchossois Family Institute, a leader in microbiome research.
- Education: MD from Indiana University (2015), Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Residency (2019), Adult/Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of Chicago (2023).
- Awards: Alpha Omega Alpha (2014), Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (2022).
His research interests include microbiome-driven infection prevention, antibiotic alternatives, and translational applications of microbiome science. Key projects involve fecal metabolite profiling for infection risk prediction in transplant patients and exploring Bifidobacteria's role in gut health for systemic infection prevention.
Selected articles analyze microbiome impacts on post-transplant infections, immunomodulation in severe COVID-19, and epidemiological insights into coinfections. His work bridges clinical practice and microbiome science, addressing urgent global health challenges like drug-resistant pathogens.
