Christopher L. Seplaki is an Associate Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, with dual appointments in the Department of Public Health Sciences and Department of Psychiatry, Research. His work bridges aging, physiological dysregulation, and social determinants of health.
- Education: PhD in Population Health from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2002)
- MS in Economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1997)
- BA in Economics from Rutgers University (1994)
Dr. Seplaki's research investigates how social and physical environments interact with biological aging processes to influence disability and mortality in older adults. He develops biomarkers of frailty and allostatic load, focusing on measurement precision in multi-system dysregulation. His work spans epidemiology, geriatric psychiatry, and rehabilitation science, using large datasets like the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS).
His 15 most recent publications highlight cross-disciplinary themes in geriatric cardiology, cancer survivorship, and social-environmental interactions. Key trends include frailty metrics, disability trajectories, and health disparities in resettled refugees and homebound populations.
- Scientific Awards: Behavioral and Social Sciences Section (2014), Strategic Plan Pilot Grant in Aging Research (2014-2015), RAND Summer Institute Scholarship (2003), and others.
As a principal investigator, he has secured grants for aging research and geriatric interventions, while mentoring collaborations in cardiovascular epidemiology and home health services. His methodological expertise includes statistical modeling and physiological biomarker analysis.
