Christopher Kocher is a Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at the University of South Dakota's Department of Music, where he has taught since 1999. He maintains an active career as both a classical and jazz saxophonist, performing with multiple symphonies and big bands including the Billy Vaughn Orchestra and the Temptations.

His research and teaching focus on saxophone pedagogy, jazz improvisation, and orchestral literature. He has premiered numerous contemporary works at international saxophone congresses and maintains a regular performance schedule with the Sempre Saxophone Quartet and the Kocher Duo (with his wife Stephanie).

As an educator, he has received multiple CTL Teaching Improvement Grants and Yamaha Artist Grants, and frequently conducts clinics and masterclasses on saxophone technique and jazz rehearsal methods.
