معرفی
Christopher Jefferson is a Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of St Andrews. He is affiliated with the Centre for Research into Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Computational Algebra, and the St Andrews GAP Centre. He is actively accepting postgraduate research students and leads significant research projects in computational algebra and constraint programming.
His research interests include:
- Constraint Programming
- Computational Group Theory
- Game AI
- Search Algorithms
- Symmetry Detection
- Automated Constraint Modeling
His recent publications show a strong trend in developing automated tools for constraint modeling (e.g., CONJURE, TabID) and advancing computational group theory through the GAP system. His work integrates artificial intelligence with mathematical computation, particularly in combinatorial and permutation problems.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Hidden REF 2021 - Practices (Other distinction, 2021)
Jefferson has supervised postgraduate students, including M. S. Chang, and leads major research projects funded by The Royal Society and EPSRC. He contributes to open science through public datasets and software releases. He is actively involved in outreach, participating in events like Doors Open @ Computer Science.
He is a core contributor to the GAP (Groups, Algorithms, Programming) system, a leading software for computational discrete algebra, and leads interdisciplinary work connecting computer science with social simulation, as seen in his agent-based modeling of gender roles.
