Christopher Hight is an Associate Professor at Rice University's School of Architecture within the Jones College. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of London, an M.A. from the Architectural Association, and dual degrees (B.Arch. and B.A.) from Rice University. His research explores the intersection of cybernetics, formalism, and post-WWII architectural design, as detailed in his book Architectural Principles in the Age of Cybernetics (2007). He has lectured globally and co-edited Collective Intelligence in Design for the journal AD.
Teaching includes graduate/undergraduate design studios and theory seminars at Rice, alongside prior roles at the Architectural Association's Design Research Laboratory and Renzo Piano Building Workshop. He is a Fullbright Scholar and has served as a distinguished faculty associate at Rice.
Research interests emphasize cybernetics' impact on architectural theory, digital technologies, and post-humanist perspectives. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary design practices, focusing on proportion, humanism, and technological innovation in architecture.
