Christopher Hansen is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Illinois Chicago. He holds a PhD from Loyola University Chicago, an MA from the University of Chicago, and a BA from the College of William and Mary. His research focuses on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) measurement in survey studies, with expertise in sexual and gender minority (SGM) health and population research. He teaches courses in medical sociology, health inequalities, and the sociology of the family, alongside quantitative research methods and sex/gender/sexuality studies.
Dr. Hansen's work emphasizes multidimensional gender measurement, longitudinal SOGI data collection, and proxy reporting analysis. His research has been published in journals like Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology, LGBT Health, and Prevention Science. He collaborates on projects addressing health equity for transgender youth and public attitudes toward LGBTQ+ discrimination, leveraging innovative survey methodologies such as mixed-mode data collection strategies.
His teaching portfolio includes SOC 251 (Sociology of Health and Medicine), SOC 455 (Health Inequalities), and SOC 445 (Sociology of the Family). He has pioneered studies on response category ordering effects in SOGI surveys and evaluated recruitment methods for SGM youth web surveys.
