Associate Professor Christopher Grupen is a member of the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney, specializing in reproductive biology. His roles include leading the Gamete and Embryo Technologies Group and serving as Academic Advisor at Camden. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD from Meiji University (Tokyo), and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education) from the University of Sydney.
Research focuses on enhancing oocyte quality, improving embryo vitrification techniques, and applying gene editing in livestock (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9 for disease models). Current projects include improving fertility in Thoroughbred horses, developing sheep models for Batten disease, and optimizing embryo selection in pigs. His work aligns with the Faculty of Science's 'Healthy Animals' research theme.
Awards include the 2017 Society for Reproductive Biology Visiting Lecturer Award and multiple travel fellowships (2004–2014). He has supervised 6 PhD and 3 MSc students to completion, advising 4 current PhD candidates. Teaching spans reproductive endocrinology, advanced reproductive technologies, and production animal biology.
