Christopher G. Wilson is a Professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine with dual appointments in the Pediatrics, Neonatology Division and the Basic Sciences, Physiology Division. His research spans multiple areas of physiology with a particular focus on respiratory control mechanisms, neonatal physiology, and neurophysiology.
Dr. Wilson's research interests center on respiratory physiology, particularly the neural control of breathing in neonates and the effects of various conditions on respiratory function. His work investigates brainstem neurogenic networks important for breathing control, the effects of hypoxia on vascular and respiratory function, and mechanisms of opioid-induced respiratory depression. He also studies neurodegenerative processes, particularly in Niemann-Pick Disease Type C, examining interferon signaling and oxidative stress responses in different brain regions.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on respiratory control mechanisms, with particular attention to how various conditions (hypoxia, opioids, disease states) affect breathing patterns and blood gas chemistry. His work employs diverse methodologies including animal models, computational modeling, and advanced imaging techniques.
