Dr. Christopher G. Bell is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Functional Genomics & Epigenomics at Queen Mary University of London's William Harvey Research Institute, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He holds a medical degree from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and a PhD in human genomics from Imperial College London. His postdoctoral training included pioneering epigenomic analysis at UCL Cancer Institute and King’s College London, followed by independent leadership at the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit.
His research focuses on epigenomic mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes, cardiometabolic disorders, and ageing-related diseases, integrating multi-omic datasets. Key themes include disease-related genetic-epigenetic interactions, epigenetic biomarkers, and 'biological ageing' clocks. He collaborates with institutions like Altos Labs and King’s College London, and his work has been featured in Nature and National Geographic.
Dr. Bell is a DERI Fellow and editorial board member for Epigenetics and Clinical Epigenetics. His research is supported by grants from Impetus Grants (USA), BrightFocus Foundation, and the BBSRC. He leads the QMUL Epigenetics Hub and advises on translational applications of epigenomic discoveries.
