Christopher Darnton, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California, and an affiliate of Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC). His expertise spans Latin America, International Relations, and research methods. He holds a Ph.D. (2009) and M.A. (2004) in Politics from Princeton University and a B.A. (2002) in International Relations from the University of Southern California.
His research focuses on domestic and bureaucratic politics of foreign policy in the Americas, conflict resolution, Cold War diplomacy, and archival research methods. Notable works include Rivalry and Alliance Politics in Cold War Latin America (2014) and a forthcoming book on U.S. security cooperation in the Americas. Recent articles address topics like public diplomacy in Cold War South America and research ethics in digital diplomacy.
Dr. Darnton teaches courses such as Introduction to International Relations and Society, Politics, and Security in Brazil. He previously taught at Reed College and the Catholic University of America.
