Christopher Campo-Bowen is an Assistant Professor of Musicology in the School of Performing Arts at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the College of Architecture, Arts, and Design. His office is located in Squires 242-L in Blacksburg, VA.

Research Focus: Campo-Bowen specializes in 19th- and 20th-century Czech music within the Habsburg Monarchy, examining intersections of opera with empire, ethnicity, gender, and queerness. His forthcoming monograph (Oxford, 2025) explores rural identity in Czech opera, while his co-edited volume (Routledge, 2024) highlights women in Czech musical culture. He also incorporates gaming research through Virginia Tech's 'Open the Gates Gaming' collective, adapting operas into Dungeons & Dragons narratives.
Publications: His articles in premier journals like Cambridge Opera Journal and 19th-Century Music consistently analyze Czech opera as a vehicle for national identity construction, imperial critique, and diplomatic expression, with recurring focus on Smetana and Dvořák.
