Christopher C. Perry, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Biochemistry Division of the Basic Sciences department at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. With a distinguished academic career spanning over two decades, Dr. Perry has established himself as a leading researcher in nanoscience and its biomedical applications. His work bridges fundamental nanotechnology with practical clinical solutions, particularly in cancer therapy and dental applications.
Dr. Perry received his Bachelor of Science from the University of London in 1995 and completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool in 1999. He then pursued postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University (2000-2004), where he investigated surface modification of polymers and thin films, as well as electron-driven chemistry of organohalide/water films under ionizing radiation.
His research program focuses on nanostructured materials for biomedical applications, with particular emphasis on nanoparticles for therapeutic delivery, radiosensitization of nanomaterials for DNA damage, and fundamental mechanisms of noble metal nanoparticle synthesis. Dr. Perry's work spans multiple disciplines including nanomedicine, radiation biology, and dental materials science. His laboratory develops innovative approaches to cancer treatment using gold and silver nanoparticles, boron neutron capture therapy models, and antimicrobial nanomaterials.
Analysis of Dr. Perry's recent publications reveals a strong trend toward translational nanomedicine, with increasing focus on clinical applications of nanotechnology. His work demonstrates sophisticated integration of materials science with biological systems, particularly in developing nanoparticle-based solutions for radiation therapy enhancement, cancer treatment, and dental applications. The interdisciplinary nature of his research is evident in collaborations spanning chemistry, physics, oncology, and dentistry.
Dr. Perry has secured significant research funding from diverse sources including the National Institutes of Health, National Medical Technology Testbed, Colgate-Palmolive Company, and various internal university grants. His current projects include development of nanocarriers for boron neutron capture therapy, reversing chemoresistance in ovarian cancer models, and bioengineered materials to modulate dental biofilm.
As an educator, Dr. Perry teaches graduate courses including DISSERTATION (IBGS 699), RESEARCH (MICR 697), SPECIAL TOPICS IN MICROBIOLOGY (MICR 626), and ANAT 697. His professional service includes membership in the American Chemical Society (2001-2020) and SPIE-The International Society for Optical Engineering.
