Christopher C. Landry is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Vermont (UVM), affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds academic ties to the Materials Science Program, Cellular, Molecular, and Biomedical Sciences Program, and Bioengineering Program. His research focuses on porous inorganic nanomaterials, heterogeneous catalysis, nanomedicine, and nano-bioconjugate preparation. Landry earned his B.A. from the University of Richmond (1990), Ph.D. from Harvard University (1994), and completed postdoctoral work at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1994–1996).
Research emphasizes structure-property relationships of porous nanomaterials for applications in catalysis, filtration, and molecular adsorption/release. Key projects include visible-light photocatalysts (porous WO₃ nanoparticles), enzyme immobilization studies (e.g., organophosphorus hydrolases), and targeted drug delivery systems using antibody-modified silica nanoparticles. Collaborations span industrial and medical fields, emphasizing both fundamental and applied research.
- Awards:
- Elected to Vermont Academy of Science and Engineering (2014)
- UVM University Scholar (2013)
- Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship (2012)
- Visiting Associate Professor, Harvard University (2007)
His group trains students in inorganic and solid-state synthesis, characterization, and application testing. Ongoing work includes development of enzyme-based decontamination systems and protein corona studies for drug delivery. Landry’s interdisciplinary approach bridges chemistry, materials science, and biomedical applications.
