Brian G. Trewyn is a Professor and Department Head of Chemistry at the Colorado School of Mines. He also serves as Associate Director of the Material Science Program and NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative. His research focuses on porous materials, catalysis, and their applications in environmental remediation, energy storage, and nanomedicine. Key collaborations include work with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) on hydrogen and methane storage.
Dr. Trewyn holds a BS in Chemistry and Microbiology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Iowa State University. His interdisciplinary work spans materials synthesis, catalytic systems design, and advanced characterization techniques for porous materials.
Research Interests: The Trewyn group explores porous nanomaterials for drug delivery, heterogeneous catalysis, PFAS degradation, CO₂ capture, and 3D printing applications. Specific projects include developing enzyme-immobilized nanocarriers, designing tandem catalytic systems, and optimizing sorbents for environmental challenges.
His lab emphasizes translational research, bridging fundamental material science with real-world solutions for energy, environment, and health. Recent work includes advancements in frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) catalysts for hydrogen storage and enzyme-nanoparticle hybrids for biomedical applications.
