Christopher Butson, PhD, is a Professor of Neurology and the Fixel Endowed Chair of Neurotherapeutics at the University of Florida. He holds expertise in neuromodulation, focusing on therapeutic and diagnostic brain stimulation. His academic journey includes degrees from the University of Maryland (B.S. Mechanical Engineering), George Washington University (M.S. Electrical Engineering), and the University of Utah (Ph.D. Biomedical Engineering). Prior roles include post-doctoral training at the Cleveland Clinic, faculty membership at the Medical College of Wisconsin (2008–2014), and leading a research laboratory at the University of Utah's Scientific Computing & Imaging (SCI) Institute and Department of Biomedical Engineering (2014–2020).
Research Interests: Dr. Butson’s work centers on neuromodulation technologies, including neurostimulation devices and clinical applications. He has secured 10 patents, some commercialized through Intelect Medical (acquired by Boston Scientific in 2011). As CEO of a consulting firm specializing in neurostimulation, he bridges academic research with industry innovation.
