Professor Christopher Bray holds the position of Professor of Sciences Education and serves as Faculty Dean for Education at Queen Mary, University of London within the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. He leads the Chemistry Department, focusing on organic chemistry research with an emphasis on new synthetic methodologies and natural product total synthesis. His group specializes in cyclopropane and heterocyclic chemistry, developing scalable methods for small ring systems. He teaches courses like Advanced Biological Chemistry and Organic Synthesis. Recent recognitions include ImpactQM Scholarships and outstanding student achievements in research and thesis work.
Research Interests: The Bray group explores novel synthetic approaches to 3-5 membered rings, including cyclopropanes, azetidines, and sultones. Current projects involve functionalization strategies for strained rings and biogenetic pathway-inspired natural product synthesis. Their work bridges organic methodology development and complex molecule construction.
Key Collaborations: Ongoing partnerships include work with Syngenta through CASE placements and collaborative imaging studies with Biochimica et Biophysica Acta. Recent publications highlight advancements in cyclopropanation techniques and respiratory complex analysis.
Awards & Mentoring: Supervised students have received accolades such as the College prize for best MSci project (Wendy Rogers) and best talk/poster awards. The group actively engages in international conferences and industry collaborations.
