معرفی
Christopher Bailey is a Professor of Geology at the College of William & Mary, specializing in structural geology, tectonics, and landscape history. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. from William & Mary. His research focuses on ductile fault zones, Appalachian Mountains tectonics, and the geology of regions like Oman’s Samail Ophiolite. Over 28 years, he has advised over 200 undergraduate students, many of whom pursue careers in geoscience. His work integrates structural analysis with petrology, sedimentology, and geochronology. Bailey is a co-author of the textbook Structural Geology (Oxford University Press, 2020) and has led multiple field studies in Virginia, Utah, Arizona, and Norway.
His current projects include structural studies of the Virginia Appalachians, strain analysis in deformed rocks, and landscape history of Utah’s High Plateaus. Bailey teaches courses such as Structural Geology Seminar, Field Methods for Earth and Environmental Scientists, and Planetary Geology. His extensive fieldwork has produced numerous geologic maps, including the Shenandoah National Park Region and Alberene quadrangle in Virginia.
Notable contributions include advancing understanding of ophiolite emplacement in Oman and the tectonic evolution of the Blue Ridge-Piedmont boundary. His research emphasizes interdisciplinary methods to unravel crustal deformation processes and their geologic records.
