Christophe Gibout is a Professor of Urban Planning and Geography at Université du Littoral – Côte d’Opale in France. His research focuses on social uses and governance of public spaces, including cultural practices (festivals, carnivals), recreational activities (skateboarding, parkour), and environmental governance (public debates on territorial projects, industrial risk management). He has recently led studies on the recreational use of military heritage, the rehabilitation of a maritime warehouse into a skate park in Dunkerque, and parkour practices in northern France's industrial sites.
He is currently finalizing a report for a European research contract under the Urban Innovative Actions program, analyzing the "TAST’in FIVES" project in Lille. This initiative explores urban regeneration through food systems, aiming to combat urban poverty by empowering residents as drivers of territorial development. The project repurposes an industrial heritage site into an ecosystem integrating agriculture, food production, services, and social initiatives.
Collaborations include co-authorship with Alexandre Fauquette on the "TAST’in FIVES" proposal. His work bridges sociology, urban studies, and policy-making, emphasizing citizen engagement in industrial heritage revitalization.
