Christophe Alcantara

Christophe Alcantara is a University Professor in Information and Communication Sciences at Université Toulouse 1 Capitole, affiliated with the Institute of Space, Territorial, Cultural and Communication Law (IDETCOM). He is an active researcher and academic leader with a focus on digital communication, e-reputation, and cultural itineraries, particularly the Camino de Santiago.

His research interests include digital identity, social media analysis, digital humanities, artificial intelligence in organizations, museum branding, and the sociocultural dimensions of pilgrimage in the digital age. He employs hybrid methodologies combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to analyze large digital corpora.

His recent publications reveal a consistent focus on the digital traces of pilgrims, the branding of cultural routes, museum diplomacy on Instagram, and the societal implications of big data and AI. These works demonstrate a thematic evolution toward understanding how digital platforms reshape cultural heritage and collective memory.

Alcantara has co-supervised PhD research, including Ghislaine Abbassi’s thesis on web ecosystems and visibility strategies. He has also been involved in industrial collaborations, notably with AFNOR’s E-reputation commission, and has contributed to public debates on cybersecurity and digital identity through conferences and expert interventions.

He leads and participates in interdisciplinary research teams, including the Observatory of Social Media in Public Relations (OMSRP) at Laval University, and has collaborated with institutions in Canada, Spain, and Martinique. His work bridges academia, public policy, and digital practice.
