Prof. Dr. Christoph Weber is a Full Professor of Energy Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2004, leading the Department of Energy Economics within the Faculty of Business and Economics. His academic career includes a Habilitation in Energy Economics from the University of Stuttgart (2004), a PhD in Economics from the University of Hohenheim (1999), and a Mechanical Engineering diploma with an energy focus from the University of Stuttgart (1983–1989). He has held leadership roles at the Institute for Energy Economics and the Rational Use of Energy (IER) in Stuttgart and engaged in development work in Cameroon (1990–1991).
He specializes in energy market liberalization, risk management, and applying operations research to energy challenges. His research addresses market design for renewables, grid flexibility, and policy instruments for sustainable business models. Weber is actively involved in professional organizations such as the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), Verein für Socialpolitik, and Gesellschaft für Operations Research (GOR). He also serves as Vice Dean for Research and on the faculty council, contributing to institutional decision-making.
His recent talks include discussions on the German Energiewende’s economic implications and energy market efficiency. He advises on energy system transformation through roles like scientific advisor to WIK and board member of GEE. His work bridges theoretical insights with practical grid challenges, emphasizing empirical analysis and policy relevance.
