Christoph Thiele

Professor Christoph Thiele is a faculty member at the University of Bonn's Life and Medical Sciences Institute (LIMES), where he leads research in the Department of Lipid Biochemistry & Cell Biology. His work bridges fundamental biochemistry with medical applications through interdisciplinary collaboration.

His research focuses on:

• Lipid metabolism dynamics in cellular systems
• Mechanisms of ferroptosis and metaflammation
• Adipose tissue modeling and hepatocyte function
• Intracellular lipid storage droplet biology
• Advanced lipid imaging and tracing methodologies

Prof. Thiele currently directs multiple German Research Foundation-funded projects including the Priority Program on lipid metabolism in ferroptosis and Collaborative Research Center sub-projects developing immunocompetent 3D adipose models and multi-omics technologies. His methodological toolkit spans mass spectrometry, metabolic labeling, fluorescence microscopy, and artificial lipid droplet systems.

His collaborative approach is evident through participation in numerous large-scale research consortia addressing lipid-related pathologies, with particular emphasis on translating biochemical insights into understanding metabolic and degenerative diseases.
