Christoph Heizler is a Lecturer in Pastoral Theology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg since 2021. He holds positions at multiple institutions, including the University of Regensburg (SS 2023) and Martin Luther University Halle (WS 2022/23). His academic trajectory includes a Habilitation (2021) and PhD (2018, summa cum laude) in Pastoral Theology. He has served as Substitute Chair of Pastoral Theology (WS 2021/22 and SS 2022) and maintains pastoral roles since 2013 as a hospital chaplain (75% workload).
Education: Completed teacher training in Catholic theology and sports science (1995-1999), a theology diploma (1992-1999), and community service in geriatric care (1992-1993). His research focuses on pastoral care innovation inspired by monastic concepts, religious-psychological studies of God representations, and the aesthetics of modern lifestyles in theological frameworks.
Notable achievements include the 2018 Alumni Prize for his dissertation on Edith Stein’s theology of prayer. He has been active in pastoral work since 2000, including training in person-centered counseling and roles as a pastoral assistant in Lörrach, Emmendingen, and Kenzingen.
His work bridges pastoral theology with contemporary societal challenges, emphasizing hope and ecclesiastical role adaptation amid evolving professional self-concepts of pastoral actors.
