Christoph Gradmann is a Professor in the Department of Community Medicine and Global Health at the University of Oslo's Medical Faculty. His research focuses on the history of infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, and global health, with notable work on Robert Koch and antibiotic drug development. He holds a Dr.phil. and Habilitation in medical history and science. Awards include the Robert Koch Medal (2005) and a Leverhulme Visiting Professorship (2013-2014).
Gradmann's academic journey includes positions at Hannover, Heidelberg, and Berlin Universities before joining UiO in 2006. He leads a five-country project on antibiotic drug development's history and collaborates internationally on global health initiatives. His teaching spans medical history, global health, and research methodologies.
Key research areas include the cultural history of bacteriology, biographical historiography, and the evolution of infectious disease concepts. Recent projects address antibiotic resistance governance and the history of tuberculosis control in Tanzania. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary health policy challenges.
