Christine Vatovec, PhD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont (UVM), with affiliations across multiple schools including the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Larner College of Medicine, Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, and Gund Institute for Environment. Her work bridges environmental health and social science to address planetary health challenges. She holds roles as Planetary Health Lead at the Osher Center for Integrative Health and has been recognized for teaching excellence, including the 2020 UVM Outstanding Part-time Faculty Teaching Award.
Dr. Vatovec’s research focuses on reducing healthcare’s environmental footprint while improving human health outcomes. Her expertise spans decarbonizing healthcare systems, climate-informed primary care, and nature-based health interventions. She has authored Dying Green (2023), exploring sustainable end-of-life care, and teaches courses like Climate Change and Health and Planetary Health.
Her scholarly contributions include advancing pharmaceutical pollution mitigation, green infrastructure solutions for climate adaptation, and community-driven environmental health strategies. Awards include the 2025 Outstanding Poster Award and UVM Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching nomination. She collaborates with healthcare providers, policymakers, and environmental organizations to promote Whole Person Health and integrative healthcare models.
