She holds a Ph.D. from UCLA (1997), an M.A. from UCLA (1991), and a B.A. from UC San Diego (1989).
Her work explores how gender intersects with auditory culture, including studies of women's voices in early radio and resistance movements against military dictatorships. Current projects include documenting Radio Colonia's role during South America's repressive regimes and collaborating with the Library of Congress' Radio Preservation Task Force. She advocates for radio preservation through academic partnerships and pedagogical innovation.
Her publications include Radio and the Gendered Soundscape (2015) and its Spanish translation (2021), analyzing how women shaped Latin American radio's sonic landscapes. Recent scholarship addresses WWII propaganda and transnational radio's role in feminist media history.
