Christine Selby

Christine Selby is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Athletic Counseling Program at Springfield College. She also operates a part-time private practice as a licensed counseling and sport psychologist through Selby Psychological Services, PLLC. She holds credentials as a certified eating disorder specialist and has emeritus status as a certified mental performance consultant.

Education:

• Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas
• Master’s degree from Springfield College
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Carthage College (Class of ’92)

Professional Roles:

• Represents the Society for Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology on the APA’s Council of Representatives
• Founding Chair of the Eating Disorders and Body Image Interest Group (APA’s Society for Health Psychology)

Research & Practice Focus: Specializes in eating disorders among athletes, autonomy-supportive psychotherapy, and psychological support for athletic populations. Her work emphasizes helping individuals uncover authentic identities and fostering resilience through mental health interventions.

Recognition: Maintains certification with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and the Association of Applied Sport Psychology.
