Christine Morris serves as the Andrew A. David Professor in Greek Archaeology and History at Trinity College Dublin, where she has been a faculty member since 1994. She represents Trinity on the Managing Committee of the Irish Institute of the Hellenic Studies at Athens and co-edited its inaugural publication The Lure of Greece (2007).
Her educational background includes Classics studies at Churchill College, Cambridge, followed by a Ph.D. at University College London. Prior to joining Trinity, she conducted fieldwork at Knossos through the British School at Athens and served as Colin Renfrew's research assistant.
Professor Morris specializes in Aegean Bronze Age archaeology with particular focus on ceramic studies (pictorial pottery and figurines), ancient art, Mycenaean intercultural relations across the Eastern Mediterranean, and ancient religion—especially goddess cults and gender dynamics. Her groundbreaking work situates goddess historiography within 19th-20th century intellectual frameworks, while current projects apply GIS technology to analyze ritual landscapes at the Atsipadhes peak sanctuary in Crete.
Recent scholarly output reveals strong integration of digital humanities with traditional archaeology, particularly through spatial analysis of ritual spaces and reinterpretation of Bronze Age material culture. Her publications consistently bridge Mediterranean archaeology with reception studies and gender theory.
She actively supervises graduate research on diverse topics including Minoan Crete's funerary practices, women's ritual pharmacology, museum repatriation ethics, and Cypriot figurine life cycles. Her archaeological projects have secured IRCHSS funding for technological applications in fieldwork.
Professor Morris leads the long-term Atsipadhes peak sanctuary project in western Crete through collaboration with Dr. Alan Peatfield, focusing on spatial analysis of excavated figurines and pottery using advanced GIS methodologies.
