Christine Hauskeller is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Exeter's Department of Sociology and Philosophy, affiliated with the College of Social Sciences and International Studies. Her research spans Moral Philosophy, Decolonial Ethics, Critical Theory, and the Philosophy of Medicine, with a focus on psychedelics, genetics, and stem cell ethics. She holds leadership roles in interdisciplinary initiatives like the Exeter Psychedelic Studies Group and has advised international bodies such as the German Leopoldina Academy and the European Research Council.
Education: MA (1992) in Philosophy/Sociology/Psychoanalysis from Frankfurt University, PhD (1999) in Philosophy from Technical University Darmstadt. She joined Exeter in 2002, co-directed the ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society (2009–2012), and has held visiting fellowships at Harvard, NUS, Tsinghua University, and others.
Research focuses include decolonizing psychedelic studies, Frankfurt School Theory, and the ethics of emerging biotechnologies. Her work critiques individualized psychedelic therapies and advocates for systemic ethical frameworks. She supervises PhD students in philosophy of medicine, decolonial ethics, and critical theory.
Grants and collaborations include ERC panels, UK Research Councils, and global interdisciplinary networks. Key contributions include editing Philosophy and Psychedelics (2023) and developing frameworks for ethical psychedelic decriminalization.
