Christine Harrington is a Professor of Politics at New York University (NYU), affiliated with the Department of Politics in the College of Arts & Science. She holds a Ph.D. (1982), M.A. (1976), and B.A. (1974) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of New Mexico, respectively. Her research focuses on Public Law, Law & Society, Administrative Law, and Regulatory Regimes, with emphasis on legal institutions, regulatory policy, and alternative dispute resolution.
Her scholarly works include foundational texts such as Administrative Law and Politics (co-authored with Lief Carter) and edited volumes on postmodern legal theory and presidential politics. She has contributed to journals like Social and Legal Studies and Law and Society Review, exploring topics ranging from regulatory reform to community mediation practices.
Prof. Harrington is a leading figure in the Law & Society Association and the International Institute for the Sociology of Law. Her career highlights the intersection of legal frameworks with societal structures, emphasizing empirical methods and institutional analysis. She currently directs the NYU Institute for Law and Society, furthering interdisciplinary legal research.
