Christine Fawcett is a researcher at Uppsala University's Department of Psychology, Division of Developmental Psychology, with a focus on early childhood social cognition since June 2011. Previously at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (2008-2011), her work examines how children process social signals, interpersonal synchrony, and gender development using eye-tracking and physiological measures. She earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from UC Berkeley (2008) and B.A. in Psychology with Applied Statistics minor from Miami University (2001).
Research Interests: Her work reveals how infants align behavior and physiology with others, including pupillary contagion and movement synchrony. Recent studies explore gender identity formation in preschoolers, non-verbal social relationship inference through saliva sharing, and cross-species physiological responses. Methodologically combines computational models with infant behavior analysis.
Scientific Recognition: Recipient of major grants including the Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences (€635k) and Swedish Research Council (€350k), with Marie Curie Fellowship support. Her publications in Science, Child Development, and Psychological Science demonstrate impact across developmental psychology and social neuroscience.
Collaborative Network: Works with multidisciplinary teams including Gustaf Gredebäck, Bahar Tunçgenç, and Kahl Hellmer. Develops AI-based infant engagement analysis with Marc Fraile and Joakim Lindblad. Investigates Williams syndrome with Johan Lundin Kleberg and autism research with Ulf Liszkowski.
