Christine Couturier

Christine Couturier is a Term Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of La Rochelle (2007), an M.Sc. in Oceanography from the University of Quebec in Rimouski (2003), and a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Poitiers (1999). Her research investigates the physiological adaptations of aquatic vertebrates to environmental stressors like temperature extremes, hypoxia, and elevated CO₂ levels, with implications for climate change resilience in fisheries and aquaculture.

Her work employs multi-level analyses from molecular to organismal scales, focusing on:

• Metabolic and cardiac adaptations to hypoxic conditions
• Neuroprotective mechanisms during anoxia
• Thermal acclimation capacity in fish species
• Impacts of ocean acidification on respiratory physiology

Dr. Couturier teaches undergraduate courses including Human Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Fish Physiology, integrating her research expertise into pedagogical practice.
