Christine Couturier is a Term Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the University of La Rochelle (2007), an M.Sc. in Oceanography from the University of Quebec in Rimouski (2003), and a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Poitiers (1999). Her research investigates the physiological adaptations of aquatic vertebrates to environmental stressors like temperature extremes, hypoxia, and elevated CO2 levels, with implications for climate change resilience in fisheries and aquaculture.
Her work employs multi-level analyses from molecular to organismal scales, focusing on:
- Metabolic and cardiac adaptations to hypoxic conditions
- Neuroprotective mechanisms during anoxia
- Thermal acclimation capacity in fish species
- Impacts of ocean acidification on respiratory physiology
Dr. Couturier teaches undergraduate courses including Human Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Fish Physiology, integrating her research expertise into pedagogical practice.
