Christine Chambers is a Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Children’s Pain at Dalhousie University, affiliated with the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience and cross-appointed in Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Psychiatry, and Nursing. She leads the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre and serves as Scientific Director of Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP), a national knowledge mobilization network. Her work bridges clinical psychology, health research, and policy, with a focus on transforming pediatric pain management through evidence-based solutions and patient partnership.
Education: BSc (Dalhousie), MA and PhD (UBC).
Research Interests: Children’s pain epidemiology, knowledge translation, patient engagement, and healthcare innovation. Notable contributions include the #ItDoesntHaveToHurt initiative and leadership in developing Canada’s pediatric pain standards. Over 200 peer-reviewed publications and recognition in top 2% of cited scientists globally.
Awards include Royal Society of Canada Fellowship, CAHS Fellowship, and multiple leadership awards in health research. Serves on editorial boards of PAIN Reports and Canadian Journal of Pain.
Grants and mentorship: Mentored over 100 trainees, steering CIHR’s Institute for Human Development, Child and Youth Health. Key projects include the Caring Intensively Study on PICU psychological outcomes and the #SeePainMoreClearly social media campaigns.
