Christine Barwick is a Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology at Humboldt-University Berlin. Formerly a researcher at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and the Institut für Landes- und Stadtentwicklungsforschung (ILS) in Dortmund, her work focuses on migration, urban theory, and inequality. She holds a PhD from Humboldt-University, where her doctoral research explored residential mobility among German-Turkish middle classes. Barwick’s research bridges urban sociology with critical analyses of housing markets and discrimination.

She explores how networks and practices mediate resource access, particularly for ethnic minorities in Berlin. Presentations include a 2015 colloquium on upward mobility among Turkish-Germans.
Teaching & Affiliations:
She has held office hours at Humboldt-University as an acting professor and contributed to the Georg-Simmel-Zentrum. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to urban sociology and social exclusion.
