With 25 years of research experience and prior teaching roles at UWE and University of Leicester, she maintains active industry engagement through her consultancy work.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Cultural Economies from University of Leicester
- MA in Media Communications from Goldsmiths College, University of London
- BA (Hons) in Sociology and Cultural Studies from University of Sussex
Williams' research critically examines discourses of creativity and alternative work models in creative industries, specializing in writers' economic conditions and cooperative structures. Her work reveals how cultural workers navigate precariousness through collective action while exposing systemic silencing mechanisms in creative labor. Current investigations focus on rejection dynamics in cultural sectors through newly awarded HEQR funding.
Analysis of her 13 publications (2018-2025) shows consistent thematic evolution from individual writing practices toward systemic cooperative solutions, with increasing emphasis on gender equity across UK, German and Canadian screen industries. Her scholarship bridges cultural theory with actionable policy frameworks for fairer creative economies.
As Book Reviews Editor for the Journal of Cultural Analysis and Social Change, Williams shapes scholarly discourse while supervising student final projects. Her research portfolio includes significant contributions to the CCERR project on creative microbusiness resilience and the Gender Equity Project analyzing transnational screen industry policies.
