Dr Christina Philippou is an Associate Professor in Accounting and Sport Finance at the University of Portsmouth, within the Faculty of Business and Law. She holds dual appointments at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance and the Centre for Cybercrime and Economic Crime. Her research focuses on forensic accounting, economic crime in sport, and corporate governance. Prior to academia, she worked as a forensic accountant at Deloitte, specializing in fraud investigations and regulatory compliance. She advises UK government bodies on football governance reforms and has contributed to high-profile reports for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Her teaching includes leading football finance programs for the Premier League and Chartered Governance Institute.
Research Interests: Corruption in sport, football finance, anti-money laundering, governance frameworks, and financial education for athletes. She has published extensively in journals like European Planning Studies and Soccer & Society, with a focus on sport ethics and economic resilience.
