Christina Lane is a Professor of Film Studies at the University of Miami’s Department of Cinematic Arts and currently serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. Her research focuses on film history, feminist media, and biographical studies of influential Hollywood figures like Joan Harrison and Kathryn Bigelow. She has authored award-winning books such as Phantom Lady: Hollywood Producer Joan Harrison, The Forgotten Woman Behind Hitchcock, which won the Edgar® and Agatha Awards, and Feminist Hollywood. Lane’s work has been published in journals like Cinema Journal, Alphaville, and Mississippi Quarterly.
Her academic roles include leadership positions such as President of the University Film and Video Association (2020–2022) and membership in organizations like Women and Film History International and the Biographers International Organization. She has contributed to NPR, Turner Classic Movies, and academic edited collections on topics ranging from Hitchcock adaptations to independent cinema.
Lane’s research interests span biographical studies of overlooked figures, feminist critiques of Hollywood, and analysis of post-war film noir. Her recent work emphasizes archival recovery of women’s contributions to mid-20th century media production and the cultural impact of gendered narratives in thriller and action genres.
Her scientific awards include the Edgar® Award for Best Biographical Work (2020), Agatha Award (2020), and multiple nominations including the Anthony Award. Her book Phantom Lady was also named one of Library Journal’s Best Books of 2020.
In teaching, Lane instructs courses on international cinema history, film genres, women in media, and aesthetics. Her pedagogical focus integrates critical analysis with practical applications in film studies.
