Christina Getrich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland’s Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS) College, and an Affiliate Faculty member of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center. Her research focuses on immigration policy, immigrant justice, and the psychosocial impacts of exclusionary policies on Latinx communities, with a particular emphasis on DACA recipients and first-generation immigrant youth.
Her work integrates ethnography, mixed-methods approaches, and policy analysis to explore topics such as navigational capital, mental health resilience, healthcare access disparities, and community activism. Recent studies highlight how marginalized groups navigate fragmented policy landscapes and deploy advocacy strategies in regions like the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Getrich’s publications often address themes of identity negotiation, policy limbo effects, and the intersection of health equity with immigration status. She has contributed to debates on cultural competence in healthcare training, the role of promotoras (community health workers), and the design of equitable public health interventions.
Her work frequently engages with vulnerable populations, including undocumented immigrants and healthcare workers, to illuminate systemic barriers and propose evidence-based solutions. While no specific grants or labs are explicitly detailed in the text, her research demonstrates sustained engagement with community-driven methodologies and policy-oriented outcomes.
