Christina Fink is an Associate Professor of International Affairs and Director of the MA International Development Studies Program at George Washington University. Her work focuses on Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, and broader Southeast Asia, emphasizing political development, gender inclusion, and civil society. She combines academic research with practical development projects, including roles in program evaluation and curriculum development.
Education: B.A. in International Relations from Stanford University; M.A. and Ph.D. in Social/Cultural Anthropology from UC Berkeley.
Research Interests: Fink’s research explores Myanmar’s political and social transformation, particularly post-2010 reforms, ethnic and religious minorities, and the impact of digital media like Facebook on communal violence. She also examines gender equity in development programs through the GenderPro initiative.
Recent Work: Co-authored reports for the U.S. Institute of Peace on Myanmar’s coup and China’s role in its conflicts. Her current book project analyzes Myanmar’s 2010s reforms. She has published widely on topics like anti-Muslim violence, civil society resilience, and constitutional challenges faced by religious minorities.
Professional Contributions: Served at the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute in Thailand and contributed to UNICEF-linked capacity-building programs. Her teaching includes courses on equitable development in Southeast Asia, gender and development, and the theoretical foundations of international development studies.
