Dr. Christina Durón is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Pepperdine University's Seaver College. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from Claremont Graduate University (2019) and completed a postdoctoral research associate position in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arizona (2019–2022). Her research focuses on network theory and analysis, developing computational and statistical methods to model complex relational data, with applications in epidemiology, biology, and educational modules. She is passionate about innovative teaching strategies to engage students in mathematics both inside and outside the classroom.
Education:
- PhD in Mathematics, Claremont Graduate University, 2019
Research Interests: Network dynamics, mathematical biology, computational modeling of complex systems, and educational approaches to mathematics. Her work bridges theoretical mathematics with practical applications in fields like epidemiology and cancer research.
Publications: Her research spans network centrality measures, epidemic modeling on networks, and computational methods in linear algebra and statistics. Recent work includes developing the Heatmap Centrality metric for identifying super-spreader nodes in networks and exploring tumor-specific networks in glioma.
Teaching: Teaches courses such as Calculus 1, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Probability, emphasizing hands-on computational tools and student engagement.
