Christina Aye is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences division, specifically within the Nuffield Department of Women's & Reproductive Health. She serves as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where she is also the Fetal Monitoring Lead. Additionally, she functions as the Academic Training Representative for Health Education Thames Valley.
Dr. Aye graduated from St John's College, Oxford University in 2006 and completed her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through Health Education Thames Valley starting in 2008. She earned her DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine between 2014-2017 under the supervision of Professor Paul Leeson and Dr. Ingrid Granne, focusing on the effects of pregnancy complications on fetal and neonatal cardiovascular development.
Her research primarily investigates the long-term cardiovascular consequences of pregnancy complications, particularly hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and preterm birth, examining the pathological mechanisms behind these effects. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on cardiovascular development in offspring of complicated pregnancies, with particular attention to microvascular changes, cardiac remodeling, and autonomic function.
Dr. Aye has received notable recognition including being a runner-up for the RCOG Blair Bell Research Society Prize in 2017. She currently serves as a co-applicant on an MRC Programme Grant and is the Principal Investigator for the CAREFOL-HT trial, a randomized controlled trial investigating 5-MHTF supplementation in early onset preeclampsia.
Her academic career progressed from NIHR Academic Lecturer in 2017 to her current Consultant position in 2021, maintaining an active research profile while providing clinical care in fetal medicine. Her work bridges clinical obstetrics with cardiovascular research, creating a unique interdisciplinary approach to understanding maternal-fetal health outcomes.
