Dr. Christianne Smit is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University. Her work focuses on Political History, International and Political History, and Transformative Change. She serves as an educational ambassador for Community-engaged Learning and is affiliated with research themes including Dynamics of Youth and Institutions for Open Societies.
As a Senior Fellow at the Centre of Academic Teaching (2024-2028), she leads projects on Transformative Academic Education from a humanities perspective. Her research examines interactions between public opinion and political agenda-setting in the Netherlands and Western Europe (1850-1940), with particular interest in social reformers, political culture, and humanitarian narratives.
