Christianna Bennett is an Assistant Professor and Director of Geofutures at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. She teaches in the Bachelors of Architecture and Masters of Architecture programs, specializing in interdisciplinary coursework bridging Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and Urbanism, as well as the History, Theory, and Criticism of Design. She also instructs architecture students in Core Design Studios (years 1-4) and advises terminal projects and theses.
Her research explores:
- Merging biological and artificial systems (botanical-cyborg hybrids, landscape-machines)
- Environmental ethics and human geography
- Experimental horticulture and biomaterials in landscapes
- Medicinal plant cultivation practices and cultural relationships
- Material lifecycles of vegetation-derived substances
- Environmental aesthetics and speculative futures of landscapes
She is currently working on a publication examining the environmental, ecological, and cultural legacies of medicinal plants within landscapes.
