Dr. Christiane Hoppmann is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Arts. She also serves as Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies and is a core member of the Edwin S.H. Leong Center for Healthy Aging. Her research focuses on how social relationships and goals influence health and well-being, employing innovative daily life assessment methods combined with biological markers and behavioral tracking. Collaborations span disciplines, universities, and community organizations, with funding from major institutions like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Dr. Hoppmann holds editorial roles at International Journal of Behavioural Development, Psychology & Aging, and Psychological Sciences, and is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America. Her awards include the UBC Killam Research Fellowship (2020), Canada Research Chair (2013/2019), and multiple grants recognizing her contributions to aging and health research.
Her work emphasizes the interplay between social dynamics, health behaviors, and psychological well-being across the lifespan, particularly in older adults. She actively mentors graduate students in the health psychology program and leads projects on solitude, loneliness, and couple synchrony in daily life.
