Christian Wichmann

Christian Wichmann (PD Dr. med.) is a Physician Scientist at the Division of Transfusion Medicine, Cell Therapeutics, and Hemostaseology at the University Hospital of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU).

His research focuses on experimental cell therapy, particularly in the development of improved lentiviral CAR-T vectors for cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Wichmann's work centers on adoptive cell transfer of antigen-receptor-modified T-lymphocytes, where patients' own T-cells are engineered to recognize specific cancer cell surface antigens and induce tumor cell death, while addressing dangerous side effects such as uncontrolled cytokine release.

Currently, Dr. Wichmann supervises doctoral research through the LMU-CSC Scholarship Program, offering positions for full doctoral study models of 36 or 48 months. His research represents an important contribution to advancing cancer immunotherapy techniques with direct clinical applications in oncology treatment.
