Christian U. Blank is a Professor of Internal Medicine at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and a staff member at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI). He also holds a professorship at the University of Regensburg, Germany, and is a founding faculty member of the International Neoadjuvant Melanoma Consortium (INMC). His research focuses on cancer immunotherapy, particularly neoadjuvant checkpoint inhibition in melanoma, and he has pioneered studies to personalize therapy intensity, surgical approaches, and follow-up protocols. He obtained his MD from the Technical University Munich and an MBA from the University of Warwick. His career includes roles at the University of Regensburg and the Netherlands Cancer Institute, alongside over 200 peer-reviewed publications and leadership in clinical trials. He is an active member of ESMO and ASCO, frequently invited as a speaker at international conferences.
Dr. Blank’s academic journey includes a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Chicago (2001–2003) and appointments as a Physician and Research Group Leader. His work emphasizes translational research bridging clinical oncology and immunology, with a focus on improving patient outcomes through innovative immunotherapeutic strategies. He teaches at both LUMC and the University of Regensburg, contributing to medical education and oncology training programs.
