Christian T. Gloria serves as Associate Professor of Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, where he focuses on mental health equity and policy development. His work bridges academic research with real-world public health implementation across international contexts.
Dr. Gloria's research centers on mental health disparities within Filipino communities, highlighted by his groundbreaking study in Pampanga province, Philippines – the first baseline mental health assessment following the country's 2018 Mental Health Law. He frames mental health as the "third wave" of crises post-COVID-19, emphasizing how sociomedical factors drive inequities in healthcare access, physical health outcomes, and socioeconomic stability. His current projects with the Philippine Council for Health Research & Development aim to develop evidence-based policies for government agencies, NGOs, and community centers.
As an educator, he prioritizes knowledge exchange and mentoring future public health leaders, stating: "I love that I can have a job and get paid to meet, teach, learn, solve problems, and save lives with people from all walks of life." Recently relocated from Honolulu to New York City, he actively seeks partnerships with Filipino immigrant communities and organizations to expand his U.S.-based research.
